Welcome, welcome to the to Political Musings. I'm your host, Amy Manuel. And my guest today is Del Fry. Dale is in a runoff for Texas Senate District SD 30. Welcome to the show, Dale. Thank you for having me. The theme for today's show is Cartoon Villains.
As we just heard, Cruella Deville. The theme song to 101 or from 101 Dalmatians. Cruella's theme song. And I I am stunned that we are talking about killing puppies. That kind of they actually bragged about this. What what what are your thoughts, Dale?
Yeah, that that's kind crazy. It's crazy to think that we're here right now where we're at. But uh apparently that happened. And and look, I mean, I I I do want to tell everyone in the audience, you know, I uh I don't live in a rural area myself, but one of my friends does.
And he was telling me that, you know, when you have an animal, like he has a couple of horses, for example. He says, like when we have a horse, uh, you know, and he needs to be put down, like everyone in the rural areas, everyone knows a veterinarian, especially if you have animals like horses and whatnot. Um there's actually multiple veterinarians veterinarians in his community.
And he says, hey, look, like a vet a vet will come and they'll give them two shots. One shot to make them fall asleep, and another shot to stop their heart. Um he's like, it c he says it costs like 20 bucks, right? Um he says the concept of having to shoot your animal, it's not a thing.
Like this isn't the 1950s anymore. Like in the real world in this day and age, like there are humane ways that ranchers do use. Uh so the concept that this woman would actually shoot her dog, I mean, it's it's so out there that it's almost hard for me to almost it's hard for me to swallow this pill and actually believe that it's real.
Like I sometimes wonder if she's just like making something up or because it it's's just crazy. Not to mention, like as a politician. I mean, shes a politician. s Every everyone who runs for office understand that anything that you can't, anything that you say can and will be held against you in a court of public uh in a court of public
opinion. So admitting or here's the thing for me. Here's the thing for me. This story is written in a book, and then there's an audio book, so then she told the story, and no one not the probably ghostwriter for her book, not the editor for her book, not the publisher for her book, not the person working in the booth, not
any of her political advisors. No one said, Hey, maybe don't brag about shooting a puppy in the face. Her defense this weekend, when she went on the you know, Saturday and Sunday shows, on the weekend shows, was to then say, well, wasn't a puppy. Fourteen months. So in human years, that's like a 10-year-old, 12-year-old kid.
That's still a kid. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, look, I I I can't get inside of her head. It is pretty shocking that um, I mean, it it's it's okay, look, it's shocking but not shocking. It's shocking to think that we're here at this point
right now, at the same time, too. Um, there's like a new word that I've added to my vocabulary called the attention economy. Um the with the concept of the attention economy that even the the concept here is you can't say the word infamous without saying famous. In the end of the day, she's grabbed people's attention. Now, I would think it's in a negative way.
Um, but people are talking about her. Like it it in the end of the day there are people who who who run for office and care very much about their social media presence. And if anything, technically speaking, maybe she's actually I hate to say that maybe she she's actually winning right now. Because in the end of the day she maybe she
wants people to know her name. Maybe she wants name recognition. Albeit I think a name recognition with negative connotation. But I there I think there are some Emily but like there is no world in which shooting a puppy in the face I agree with you. I I agree with you. In no world is that a because dog owners are
not Democrats. Dog owners are people Yeah every people who have dogs love their dogs. And the thing like be cruel to a dog and and that's that's the end on both sides of the aisle. Yeah, no like look I'm I'm agreeing with you. I'm not trying to defend her.
I'm just somehow trying to rationalize it because this is a really crazy situation. So I'm trying to think to myself why on earth
