So I know there's lots of "big news" races to vote on, but here in Denton the county clerk position is also up for vote. The current county clerk Juli Luke is the person who denied us a marriage license. So if you could enable my pettiness by voting for not-her I would greatly appreciate it.

We too were turned away by Julie Luke's staff, while she hid in her office. This is the day we met Sara and Laura. I, too, ask you to consider voting for Amy Manuel to replace Julie Luke as clerk. The job requires someone who is a strong ally.

For immediate release:

I took an oath to uphold the laws of Texas and the United States. It appears this decision now places our great state in a position where our state law contradicts federal law. Based on this new conflict, I will be deferring to my legal counsel, District Attorney Paul Johnson, for guidance.

Hello,

My name is Dale Frey, and I'm running for Denton County Clerk.

This is a big job. The County Clerk serves as the Clerk of the Denton County Commissioners Court and is the official record keeper for many of the county's most important public records (birth certificates, marriage licenses, death certificates, etc.)

Look, I'll be honest - this role is primarily administrative, and it's one that should not be partisan. The County Clerk's job is to serve the public fairly, protect the integrity of records, and follow the law.

However in 2015, after the U.S. Supreme Court's decision legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide, our County Clerk said this was not within her "values" and temporarily did not issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

My promise to you is simple: I will serve all Denton County residents professionally, respectfully, and according to the law.
