Hello,

My name is Dale Frey, and I'm running for Denton County Clerk.

This is a big job. The County Clerk serves as the Clerk of the Denton County Commissioners Court and is the official record keeper for many of the county's most important public records (birth certificates, marriage licenses, death certificates, etc.)

Look, I'll be honest - this role is primarily administrative, and it's one that should not be partisan. The County Clerk's job is to serve the public fairly, protect the integrity of records, and follow the law.

However in 2015, after the U.S. Supreme Court's decision legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide, our County Clerk said this was not within her "values" and temporarily did not issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

My promise to you is simple: I will serve all Denton County residents professionally, respectfully, and according to the law.

Who is Dale Frey?

Graduating from George Mason University, I was honored to have my first job out of college working in the headquarters of the Department of Education in Washington DC. I have since worked with various government agencies from GSA, to the U.S. Geological Survey, to NOAA - supporting our government as a web developer, systems administrator.

My wife, a native Texan, always wanted to come back home. We bought a house in Denton County to be closer with her father as he battled cancer in his later years.

And now, I feel compelled to do more in this community that I now call home. I previously ran for Texas State Senate District 30, and I am currently running for Denton County Clerk and am doing everything I can to support our friends in the FDC and DCDP.

Priorities

The Issues

Voting Centers

Frey supports countywide voting centers on Election Day, so Denton County voters can cast a ballot at any open polling place in the county instead of being locked into one assigned precinct location.

Denton County is growing fast, and voters should not lose their voice because they went to the wrong location, moved across town, work far from home, or cannot make a last-minute trip to a specific precinct. Countywide voting makes Election Day work more like early voting: simpler, clearer, and more resilient for working families, students, seniors, and voters with limited transportation.

Socializing Passport Costs

The SAVE Act is a federal proposal that would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. For many voters, that could mean producing a passport, birth certificate, naturalization paperwork, or another citizenship document before registration can be completed.

Elections are supposed to be free. If government policy turns a passport into the practical price of registering to vote, then that cost functions like a modern poll tax. If lawmakers insist on documentary proof rules, the public should socialize the cost of passports and related documents so no eligible voter is priced out of democracy.

287(g) ICE Integration

Section 287(g) allows ICE to enter agreements with state and local law enforcement agencies, giving designated local officers authority to perform certain federal immigration enforcement functions under ICE supervision.

Denton County should advocate against 287(g) integration because local public safety depends on trust. When residents fear that routine contact with local government or law enforcement could become an immigration pipeline, crimes go unreported, witnesses stay silent, families avoid services, and county resources are pulled away from core local responsibilities.

Voting centers for Denton County

It was good to speak to our fellow Denton County Commissioners back in April. 💪 There are a great many things we need to focus on in our County. We need to support Meals On Wheels, we need to allocate our Opioid Settlement Fund, but most of all, we need Voting Centers. Right now we can vote anywhere in the County during Early Voting. But on the last day to vote, on the "Election Day", we cannot. 😤 This leads to confusion, and voters being redirected to other locations on Election Day. And in a lot of cases, causes voters to loose their ability to vote (when get get fatigued or cannot make it in time to the correct location). This. Is. Voter. Suppression.
