Talks to our Denton County Commissioners to advocate for County-wide voting on Election Day

Apologies, I meant to show up last week, but life uh kind of got in the way. Uh good morning, fellow county commissioners. I've left my entire speech at home, so I'm gonna try to do this ad hoc off my head. Uh just like our good friend here who just spoke here to advocate for countywide voting on election day. You know, we have uh countywide voting during the early

voting period, but not on the last day to vote. It's very confusing to a lot of people. We're seeing a lot of people getting redirected. I understand that there have been some people who have advocated for the other way around. I know that the uh Madam Chair of the Denton County Republican Party was trying to somehow say that if we that not having countywide voting on election day is

an opportunity for precinct chairs to somehow get more involved with uh our elections. But I'll tell you this as a former precinct chair myself, uh you cannot loiter in front of a vote a voting location. Trust me, I tried to do poll greeting the first time I tried it uh doing it. I forgot that you're not allowed to stand within 100

feet of the door. And uh you'll get reminded real quick if you uh not know that. Um I understand that some will say that accessibility will somehow lead to uh insecurity in our voting systems. But if someone wants to make that claim, I would challenge them as to saying why accessibility somehow leads to insecurity.

We should be able to have both security and accessibility at the same time. In fact, it's the job of this court to maintain the security of our elections. Uh this is a huge problem, particularly in Frisco, Texas, because in Frisco, you know, we have part of our city in Denton County, the other part of Frisco in Collin County.

And there's a lot of Frisco residents that accidentally jump over the county line. And when they when a Denton resident goes to Collin County, they get redirected back into our county, but not all the election workers in Collin County necessarily know the correct location for the polling location for each individual in Denton County. And so we're seeing some sometimes people get redirected multiple

times when a when a Denton resident accidentally goes to Collin County. g Itets redi rerecditedrected back to Denton County, but it shows it to the wrong voting location, they get again. It's very frustrating And I'll be honest with you guys, I don't want to sound cynical, but it feels like voter suppression. It's a huge problem, particularly in Frisco.

Now I'm going to switch gears a little bit to a completely separate topic. I do want to give a good thank you to uh one of our members here when it comes to Frisco. Frisco has been having some really dark days, particularly in our our city council. And I want to give a special thanks to uh

someone who showed up and gave some words of common sense um to uh the Frisco City Council. Things have gotten so bad at the Frisco City Council that they have actually terminated their citizens' input uh for the foreseeable future um because of horrible rhetoric that's been stated during the uh the citizen citizens input uh during that time. But I want to thank you for your your words

of common sense, uh Commissioner. Um and I want to thank you all for your time and the hard work that you do. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for being here. Thank you, Mr. Frey.
