So this is what Mike Pence had to say in the last debate. Let me speak to the mass shootings issue. And we're gonna pass a federal expedited death penalty for anyone involved in a mass shooting so that they will meet their fate in months. So Mike Pence's legislation here is nothing more than a political placebo.
That does nothing for the actual problem and symptoms that we face in this country. Anyone who wants to commit a mass murder like this, like a mass shooting, they're likely to die in the process of trying. And even if they do somehow survive, then the death penalty is usually on the table in trial, depending upon the state that they're in.
So obviously, increasing the punishment for these kind of crimes does not deincentivize the type of people who would be willing to commit these kind of crimes. So this really does nothing. I'm so very tired of politicians dropping political placebos like this. This really shows that they don't actually care about the actual symptom.
If you actually cared, if you really did want to make mitigate these problems, you would try to implement something like common sense red flag laws. And no, I'm not talking about trying to take your guns away. No, I'm talking about common sense red flag laws to keep guns out of hands of people who have a history of uh violence, uh history of domestic abuse, or
a history of mental illness.
