I can understand the attraction to a program called School Choice or the School Voucher Program. I can understand that the word choice is in the title, and that must seem like a very appealing thing to parents. However, there is something that you need to understand about the fundamental way that this system has been specifically set up and specifically funded.
It's important for you to understand that this particular program called School Choice or the School Vouchers will take away your choice to send your children to public school by defunding the school public school institutions. That means any parent who likes their current public school right now and is sending their child to public schools right now in which they enjoy, that school is about to be defunded.
We've seen this in other states in the country. Illinois, for example, has implemented the school voucher program, and their school uh public school systems are suffering so bad that they only have three or four day-a-week uh school sessions. I understand that many Texan parents want to have the choice in which school they send their children to. And look, that is something we can talk about and
work on, but we cannot defund our public schools in the same process. If you truly wanted to have choice, then you should have the choice to send your kids to other schools, but we should not be taking away your original choice in the first place. There are many parents who enjoy their current public schools, and they should not have their current choice to send
their kids to their current schools be taken away from them.
