Here comes a new special session from our Texas governor. Governor Abbott said that Texas teachers should get a pay raise. Oh, that's cool. What's the catch? Abbott, we know, has also pushed lawmakers to pass taxpayer funded education savings accounts or ESAs to allow some students to attend private schools.
Uh yeah, let me stop you right there, Chief. That ESAs you're talking about is actually the school voucher program. It's a program specifically designed to take money away from public schools and send them to private schools. Granted, the TX ledge is rich right now with a good surplus, a good problem to have, but instead of just sending money to private schools to fund them, they
want to take money away from public schools in the process, all calling it school choice when really you lose the choice to go to public schools since they will be defunded under this program as money is ripped away from the public sector and given to the private sector. Attempts to tie both the teacher raises and the ESAs together failed in the House. Yes.
So in other words, yes, they are going to be tied together, and this whole thing is a wolf in sheep's clothing because we're gonna give money to school teachers, but then we're gonna defund the entire public school education system with the school voucher program.
