Texas is getting sued over HB 900, a book banning bill by Jared Patterson. And of course, Jared Patterson is now claiming that it's the left that wants to sexualize children. How dare the left? He's just a good person trying to keep sexual materials away from kids. Well, let's see uh what they said on the House
floor when he introduced the bill to the House. This bill did not start with HB 900 and Representative Patterson's uh conversations with Frisco ISD about books upon their shelves. This bill started with House Bill 3979 that was directly targeting, that was directly targeting the narratives of people of color about race and racism. After that bill, our former member, Representative Matt Krauss, released
a list of over 800 books that he thought schools should remove from their libraries. Members, those books contained lots of books that contained no sexual conduct whatsoever. And Representative Patterson's own path to this bill was not straightforward with sexually explicit material. He also targeted books that he claimed taught critical race theory.
And I think that is something we need to fundamentally understand about this legislation. It is not about protecting kids. It is about allowing books to be discriminated in our schools because we disagree with the content within them or with the types of narratives they're sharing.
