Happy to see the broadcast from Channel News 6 covering the State Senate Runnoff for District 30

Early voting gets underway next week for the May 28th runoff election. We're taking a look at the Democrats who are in the race for Senate District 30. Rowan Hardman joins us now. Rowan, you've been keeping a close eye on this race. That's right, Alyssa. The runoff is between Delfrey and Michael Braxton.

Del Frey takes a strong stance in fixing the healthcare system and supporting the public schools and the teachers that are in them. Michael Braxton focuses his campaign on women's rights and the cost of living crisis that we are facing. So it's going to be very competitive. It's a very contested race, as you may know. Frey was not surprised when it came to the announcement

of the runoff. Since then, he has been campaigning whenever he can, visiting the counties in the district. Frey wants to be transparent when he talks about the issues. When I talk about public education, I want to say, hey, look, guys, we have lost 40% of our school staff in the past two years due to underfunding to

our public education system. We need to fund our schools more directly from the state, uh directly from the state as we did over a decade ago. I I want to talk about the specifics. He believes that Texas should provide better health care for its residents, even by getting on the Medicaid expansion program. Frey believes his experience gives him a leg up against

his running opponent. I did have an interview set up with Michael Braxton, but due to an unforeseen emergency, we were not able to sit down with them. However, I did speak with him back during the primaries. And this is what he had to say when it came to boosting the economy in the district. As I've been traveling over my 10 counties, 11 counties,

one way that I will improve is that TI is coming in, and TI is offering uh so many uh jobs, and I will have to current all the way across our my district because Wichita Falls, Collins County, and Grayson County is booming. Braxton has a strong stance on education as well, but he realizes that some people can't go to a four-year university.

My stance on education, and I'm glad you that you asked me this one, is that education is so important uh for our young people today. Our Gen X, Gen X, Y and Z. And education is really important. But one thing that we have to look at is that everybody can't do a four-year degree.
